Dorena Williamson
Agent and Author
After participating in WriterFest for years, Dorena Williamson is thrilled to be the newest AMLA Agent. She brings over thirty years of leadership experience, including ten years in the publishing industry.
She is the bestselling author of ten children’s books and a contributor to GO Bible and the anthology We Deserve To Heal.
As a longtime bridge-builder and speaker, Dorena has a unique rapport with audiences of all ages, and her writing has been featured in Christianity Today and Hallmark Mahogany. She is the Pastor of Belonging at the multiracial church she co-planted, and the Diversity Chair for Redbud Writers Guild.
Her sweetest moments are found reading to her almost two-year-old grandson, especially when he picks up one of her books.
Here’s What I Am Looking For:
Children’s:
I am looking for board books through middle grade writing that offer literary windows and mirrors, a concept popularized by educator Rudine Sims Bishop.
I treasure multicultural writing like Crown, An Ode To The Fresh Cut by Derrick Barnes and Eyes That Kiss In The Corners by Joanna Ho
Bring on the historical picture books like Opal Lee And What It Means To Be Free by Alice Faye Duncan and Moses by Carole Boston Weatherford.
I would love to acquire the next classic novel like Frances Hodgson Burnett’s A Little Princess.
Fiction:
Inspirational romance, including historical and contemporary titles (think Denise Hunter, Tessa Afshar)
I would love to acquire BIPOC authors and see more representation like Toni Shiloh and Jenny Erlingsson.
Non-fiction:
Devotionals
Bible studies
Christian Living
Christian Ministry
Social Issues
Self-help
Autobiography
Biography
